Is it possible to connect downloaded raster cache (by Sasplanet) to Global Mapper? What should be done?
Nowadays I have nothing but to export sasplanet cache into .ecw files and only then import them into GlobalMapper. Right at the moment I obtain cache has size 1terabyte

- edited February 2014There isn't currently any support for directly loading a raster cache downloaded by Sasplanet, so exporting the cache to some other format would be the approach to take if Sasplanet can already do that.

When I want to make own maps using, for instance GPSMapedit, I just point the software where the cache is and just make maps instead of converting... I hope someday there is a possibility to point Global Mapper where raster is...

and Global Mapper v15.1
One of the SASplanet output options is to a GlobalMapper tile structure.
The path to one of the JPG tiles in your computer cache appears in the same SASplanet dialog.
In GlobalMapper, use the Online Data Source dialog, and 'Add New Source'.
I used the OpenStreetMap Tiles data source type.
Simply copy the JPG pathname to the Base Data URL,
then change the X and Y numbers to %x and %y (it will look like x%x and y%y),
set 'Select Image File Type' to JPG, and the tiles open nicely in GlobalMapper.
As an example, my URL is
'D:SASplanetSAS.Planet.Release.131111cachesatz166x%x13y%y.jpg'
I had requested zoom levels 16 to 20, but received levels 0 to 16,
but this was the first time that I have run SASplanet,
so there are probably 'features' that I have yet to learn.
We'll try an area in Uruguay next ;-)
When you export from GlobalMapper, look at the Metadata for your tiles in the Control Center.
The resolution per pixel may be too small for your imagery,
and your output file (like TIF) may be too large unless you specify a more appropriate value.
For zoom level 16 imagery, 0.6m was the pixel size in Metadata,
and 2m was an appropriate value for the exported TIF.
The 0.6m value was probably the result of my specifying Level 18 as the Max Zoom Level.
That dialog also lists the resolution of all layers and is a useful reference.
Exports of zoom level 16 imagery would be most appropriate at 2.4m pixel size.

As to downloading bing/google maps via Global Mapper there is no sense as I have already downloaded 1 terabyte cache and this cache is used in other programms (GPSMapEdit, SASPlanet). Downloading via Global Mapper means additional space for the same data.
Unfortunately I've failed to succeed following Mykle's advice...
It would be great if author makes something like it's realized in GPSMapEdit:

You would likely need a very recent version of Global Mapper to support the local cache of files with a custom URL filename description. You would add this on the File->Download Online Imagery/Data dialog and add a new Google Maps source pointed at your local cache as described above.

I'm using v 15.1... I follow all the steps described above but don't work; i don´t know the problem is in Global Mapper or the problem is in SASPlanet... What type of online source must I use?? Google, OSM, TMS?? Can Global Mapper import tiles of any map stored in 'SASPlanet Global Mapper cache'?? Only Google? For example tiles of some wms server of Spain like IGN??
SASPlanet give me the next path to cache in Global Mapper format: SAS.Planet.Release.14.04.04SAS.Planet.Release.140404cache_gmtsatz1460187975.jpg but... nothing....

The form 'file:///' perhaps was the problem.... But the results are not good yet... I delete all Google cache in SASPlanet to be sure the only tiles in cache was this:
cache in SAS.jpg
And then I added the new source with the parameters you said above:
add source.jpg
And the result in Global Mapper is this:
cache in GM.jpg
Something is wrong yet.... but we are a little closer for your invaluable help. - edited May 2014It looks like you need to reverse the %x and %y in the definition, like this:

Sorry for the duplicity in the post and Thanks one more time. - edited May 2014I imagine if all of the SASPlanet caches are the same then you would just add them the same way and only change the path to the cache to get them in Global Mapper.
The Max Zoom Level refers to the maximum zoom level to try and access from the cache. Larger values are more detailed. You might try 21 to get everything Google Maps has available, at least in imagery.

I've tried with several SASPlanet cached maps (format .png or format .jpg) and always works. For me is great news this way of working with Global Mapper. Thank you all again for your wonderful help.
I've noticed Global Mapper saves a copy of the tiles in his local cache (for Windows XP: C:Documents and SettingsUSERConfiguración localTempGlobalMapperOSMTile) but is a minor problem compared to the benefits. - edited May 2014Actually a few weeks ago I updated Global Mapper so that local file-based sources shouldn't copy the files to the local GM cache, so if you get the latest build even that small performance hit should go away. I have placed new builds with the latest changes at the links below:

The Global Mapper custom tile source can point at local sources and include things like the tile column, row, and zoom level, but it looks like there might be some more stuff in those URLs. If they are constant you can just embed them directly.

- I dont know if this is the right forum but I am trying to use sas.pnaet and look and navionics maps- it used to work fine but now it doesnt! Any ideas?
- I also have problem with the navionics charts- any solotion- anyway to update the map-sources?
