This article will let you know how to export your OneNote Notebook and Classroom Notebooks so that you are able to transfer them to another user. The current transferring method for OneNote Notebook and OneNote Classroom Notebooks will only export in the Windows operating system using the OneNote 2016 application. The person who the Notebook is transferred to can use Mac or PC to receive the file.

The Note option in Action Center opens the OneNote Windows 10 App. For the Windows 10 App of OneNote, there is a feature called Quick Notes. When you tap on the Note menu under Action Center, it will open the Quick Notes for oneNote. Now, you can customize the Quick Notes and set a specific Notebook for it. Navigate to the OneNote notebook that you'd like to rename, right-click it, and select Rename. In the Rename dialog box, enter a new notebook name, and click Save. Note: You can rename a section right from within OneNote for the web. Under Select Format: click OneNote 2010-2015 Section (.one) Click Export (See Figure 4 for all three steps) Figure 4: Choose a local location to save the Notebook, then change the file name to whatever you would like. Click Save See (Figure 5) Figure 5: Your Notebook has now been exported and is ready for transfer to another user via email. Rename a OneNote notebook tab. You can change the name of a OneNote notebook tab by clicking on the arrow icon adjacent to the notebook name and selecting the ‘Rename’ option. Enter the new name you wish to add inside the text box when prompted and click on the ‘Save’ button to confirm the changes. Rename a OneNote file.

Note: You must use the OneNote 2016 application. The OneNote tablet application does not have the same features.

Exporting Your Notebook

1. Open the Notebook you wish to export and transfer to a new user in your OneNote 2016 Application.
   • If your OneNote is saved locally on the computer open it as you usually do.
   • If the OneNote is saved only online click Open in OneNote (Figure 1)
   • If it doesn’t already say Open in OneNote 2016 and asks you to choose an application, choose OneNote 2016.

2. Once in the OneNote 2016 application click File (Figure 2)

3. Click Export (Figure 3)

4. Under Export Current: click Notebook
5. Under Select Format: click OneNote 2010-2015 Section (*.one)
6. Click Export (See Figure 4 for all three steps)

7. Choose a local location to save the Notebook, then change the file name to whatever you would like.
8. Click Save See (Figure 5)

Your Notebook has now been exported and is ready for transfer to another user via email. Once confirmed that the user is able to open the Notebook, you may delete it.

Importing a Notebook Transferred to You

1. Download and save the file locally to your computer
2. Drag the file into your OneDrive using your OneDrive folder on your computer or in the Web Browser
3. Open the file in the Web version of OneNote by double clicking the file in your OneDrive
4. If you wish to use the OneNote Application from the Web Browser click Open in OneNote

“Before moving your notes to new notebook make a backup of your notebook in local machine and save your notes and if you are working in team share the information with your team that notebook is going to move another account”

Method 1: Using OneNote 2016 Application and export Pages and section

Open your OneNote 2016 application and sign in using old account.Open a notebook from File /Open / Select Notebook. When all your Notebook sections and pages are loaded and synced.Click File / Export / Page / OneNote 2010-2016 section *.one. Type a file name and save the section or page on your local machine.After this process we need to import the page/section to new account.Click on account name on the right top corner and click switch account.The prompt will ask add a new account using email address and password.After adding an account close the running notebook from File / info / settings / close.Now create a new notebook File / New / Type notebook name.Now again file / info / open backups / Select the page’s/section file from your local drive. Now sync all the pages/sections from file / info / view sync status / sync all or press Shift + f9 to sync.

Wait for the completion and you are done with moving your pages/sections from one account to another. You can share the entire notebook with others using OneDrive link.

Method 2: Using OneNote 2016 application and Export Entire Notebook.

If something is missed in method 1 and you will be happy to move your entire notebook to the new account and that is also easy task.

Open your OneNote 2016 application and sign in using old account.Open a notebook from File /Open / Select Notebook. When all your Notebook sections and pages are loaded and synced.Click File / Export / Notebook / Onenote package *.onepkg. Type a file name and save the file on your local machine.After this process we need to import the page/section to new account.Close all OneNote opened Notebooks and switch to new account as we did in Method 1.Now close the OneNote application. Open the folder where we saved the *.onepkg

How To Rename A Notebook On Onenote

Double click the file it will open up in OneNote and give a Name and path to save. Now you have loaded up with entire Notebook. We need to share it over all devices.Click file / Share / Type name / Move notebook. Start syncing with file / info / view sync status / sync all or press Shift + f9.

Wait for the entire notebook synced and you are done with your moving entire notebook to another OneDrive account. You can access your entire Notebooks from every device and web. You can share the entire notebook with others using OneDrive link.

Now you can also delete old notebook from your old account. You can delete the entire notebook from web and provide the new account link to your team to keep working on your notebook.
